Success strategies form Burn the Hamster Wheel

Hi, everybody. Cheryl Knowlton, coming at you with your dynamite tip of the week. This tip goes along with my book, BURN The Hamster Wheel, Stress Management Strategies For Today’s Real Estate Professionals, and this time I’m asking for your help. This time I need you to hold me accountable.

Time blocking is number two of my success strategies

Number two of my success strategies is time blocking, and I know how important it is to number one, set aside a time, 30 to 60 minutes every week, for me, that’s on Sunday, to plan your week. What is coming up? What do I need to be prepared for? For me, where am I going? What do I need to do? What tasks do I need to prioritize? What do I need to delegate to members of my team?

Figuring out your week and creating a strategy is essential, and then sharing that with your significant other and/or family members who share your home. Even though my youngest daughter is married and has a baby, they live with us in a basement apartment, and she wants to know where I’m going to be. Am I actually even going to be home this week, so that I can spend time with my beautiful and amazing granddaughter who lives with us.

Creating time is my number one strategy for success

So, number one is to block out the time to create your time. And second of all is to share it with your family members, because have you ever had that happen where somebody says, “Well, I didn’t know we had that,” or, “I didn’t know we had a play at Hale Centre Theatre,” “I didn’t know we were going to Disneyland next week.” If we forget to share those key events that are coming up with our loved ones, that can create a different kind of chaos in our lives.

Number two is to have time every morning, which goes back to tip number one, creating your miracle morning, where you plan your day. Specifically, what do I need to do today, touching on all of the key objectives that we want to accomplish for the week, and breaking it down a little smaller so that we can make it happen for us during the day, assessing things that happened that went really well during the day? There are many different planner systems that you can use. If you find one that works for you, do it.

Finally, you have to actually do it

The biggest thing that I had to learn was that A, I have to actually do it. That’s where I need your help. I am making this video so that you can hold me accountable because I know if I tell you that I’m going to do it, I will because I want to make certain that I’m not a great big hypocrite.

So, set time aside in your week to plan your week, 30 to 60 minutes, and then anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes, 30 minutes max of what you’re going to do every day. Preferably in the morning, so that you create your day and your day doesn’t hijack your entire life, especially with all the emergencies that present themselves to you.

There you go, kids. That is your dynamite tip of the day.
