Listen With Your Eyes

Hi, Everybody, Cheryl Knowlton, coming at you with this week’s book of the week.  This week’s favorite book is called Attention Pays by Need James. I adore her and I absolutely love her book.

Listen to me

One of the things that I love the most about her book was a story she shares about her nephew.  She was trying to do two things at once. Many of us are guilty of doing this.  He grabbed her face.  Turned her face toward him and said, “No, Aunt Need, listen with your eyes.”

I thought about that and shared it with my oldest daughter.  She told me about how my oldest grandchild, Casey, does that.  She’ll grab my daughter’s face and say, “Mom, you’re not listening to me.” She will turn her face so he is looking at her.

We are so busy and driving, literally, to distraction so often in our day to day business and life.  It doesn’t even have to be real estate.  We’re so fixated and focused on what we are doing.  We think that we can multitask. Multitasking is actually a myth.

A challenge to all of you

I’m going to challenge you to actually listen with your eyes.

When my oldest daughter, Ashley, was a little girl, she had this habit of looking over at the side when she was talking to you.  You can see how much I liked that.  It annoys the ever-living heck out of me. I started pointing at my nose so she would start looking at me when she was talking to me.

I am going to challenge you to do that.  Look at people.  Put your phone down. Put it on airplane mode if you have to.  Actually, look people in the eye when you are talking to them.  I promise you will connect with them on an entirely different level. Whether it’s a friend of a family member, you will feel a deeper level of connection and communication with that person as you, as Need says, “listen with your eyes.”

Take this idea.  Use it to explode your business and have an absolutely extraordinary day!
