Do Enough Transactions to be a Professional

Hi everybody, for today’s tip I have something really interesting to share with you that I just learned.  I just went out to lunch today with two of my favorite lenders that I have worked with for many, many years and they told me something that I did not realize was happening.  They said that as very busy and very popular lenders, in this market place, they regularly get phone calls from real estate agents asking for help in filling out the six-page real estate purchase contract.  That they don’t do enough transactions.  They are doing maybe one a month and they forget how to fill it out.  Therefore, they are calling these fabulous lenders, who’s license is to be mortgage loan originators, not real estate professionals. They are asking for their help in filling out these very, very important contracts.

Improving your technique

That is a problem, kids.  We cannot do that.  We cannot have that. Here’s why.  Years ago, when I lived in California, I was a lender, I helped charter a chapter of the Women’s Council of Realtors. We put together this really big charitable fundraiser. It was very well attended and fabulous! It was a bowling event. And there I am on the board of directors and I absolutely, positively, sucked at bowling. A very nice affiliate comes over and says, “do you want some help?  Do you want me to teach you how to improve your technique, a little bit?”  He taught me how to improve my technique and, guess what, I bowled strike after strike after strike.  It was amazing! And I was having the time of my life and it was so much fun.

Keeping your skills sharp

Fast forward, ten years, I’ve not bowled, at all.  I have not used those skills. Therefore, I went back to the way I used to do things. Guess what, I sucked all over, again. If we don’t do enough transactions to keep our skills fresh, you’re going to be like I was at bowling. You will have once known the skills sitting in a great class, even if it was one taught by me or someone much smarter than me like Curtis Bullock and learn how to use that REPC like the tool that it is, but if you don’t utilize it enough, you’re going to be like I was at bowling. This is not OK.

Please do enough transactions to be the professional and keep your professional sword sharp when it comes to all essential aspects of the business, especially, when it comes to agency and that real estate purchase contract.

You’ll thank me later.
